Oh, toddlers. They are absolutely adorable one minute and then can make you want to pull your hair out the next. But we still love them anyway. Toddlers are so full of wonder: constanting learning, growing, and exploring the world around them...and testing their boundaries.
Trying to get them to sit still long enough to snap a few photos can seem daunting. Basically, they have the attention span of a fly, am I right? So here’s the thing. Having the mindset that you ultimately can’t control a toddler is going to help you win them over.
What I’ve learned from photographing my own kids plus hundreds of others is that you have to make the experience fun!! The saying really applies here: "If you can't beat them, join them." It’s really that simple. It’s a mindset. Creating an environment that’s fun, not intimidating, is the key to success. That doesn’t just mean playing some kid-friendly music, greeting them with smiles and a genuine interest to know more about their favorite things, etc. It also means that YOU are having fun. Kids feed off of YOUR energy. So whether you’re the photographer or the parent, if you want to have a successful photo shoot with your toddler, bring the fun and stop stressing!
